Our Bees and Butterflies initiative is a five-year ecological project designed to boost pollinator populations and support the UK’s net-zero emissions target by 2050. We're working across 50 private gardens in the UK to plant, monitor, and manage spaces that actively support bees, butterflies, and other beneficial insects. But this isn’t just about pretty flowers. It’s about measurable impact.
Planting for biodiversity: We’re creating pollinator-rich habitats using native plants like lavender, buddleja, and wildflower mixes.
Supporting sustainable gardening: Participants avoid synthetic pesticides and fertilizers, reducing emissions and protecting soil health.
Collecting real data: We’re tracking pollinator species, soil carbon levels, and emissions saved, feeding into national biodiversity and climate databases.
Pollinators are essential to our food systems and ecosystems, but their populations are declining. At the same time, gardens, especially when designed with nature in mind, can be powerful tools for carbon storage and climate resilience.
By enhancing green spaces and encouraging organic, low-impact gardening, each participating garden becomes a small but important carbon sink, biodiversity hotspot, and educational platform.
